PROCLAMATION
By The Mayor
WHEREAS: The Shelby County Government welcomes the annual Mid-South Pride Festival and Parade, which will take place in Downtown Memphis, Robert Church Park, on October 15, 2011, Saturday, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS: The Mid-South Pride Festival and Parade is an annual multicultural event in Memphis to highlight areas of concern within its participants; and,
WHEREAS: Mid-South Pride Festival attracts well over 5,000 attendees, making it the second largest Pride Festival in the state of Tennessee; and,
WHEREAS: There will be local and regional artist representing genres like hip-hop, R&B, jazz, folk, punk and Broadway tunes for the participants enjoyment.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark H. Luttrell, Jr., Mayor of Shelby County, Tennessee, do hereby proclaim October 15, 2011 to be:
MID-SOUTH PRIDE FESTIVAL AND PARADE DAY
In Shelby County, and hope it will be a memorable experience that will be enjoyed by everyone involved.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The City of Memphis is pleased to welcome the attendees to the 2011 Mid-South Pride Festival and Parade that will take place in downtown Memphis, Robert Church Park, on Saturday, October 15, 2011, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS, Mid-South Pride Festival and Parade is an annual, multicultural and educational event in Memphis that highlights the continued need for better understanding, respect, fairness, justice and equality for all people regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, in the crusade to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices; and
WHEREAS, the event also promotes unity, visibility and self-esteem among lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgender persons and that translates into an annual economic impact to the City of Memphis; and
WHEREAS, by attracting over 5,000 attendees, this event is the second largest Pride Festival in the state of Tennessee, and the only Pride Festival in the Mid-South region covering Eastern Arkansas, Northern Mississippi, West Tennessee and the boot heel of Missouri; and
WHEREAS, the festival is organized as a fun-filled, family event and is supported by several businesses and local employers who promote diversity and inclusion.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, A. C. WHARTON, JR., MAYOR OF THE CITY OF MEMPHIS, TN, do hereby recognize and welcome the organizers and participants of the Mid-South Pride Festival and Parade on this 15th Day of October 2011.

WHEREAS, on behalf of the citizens of the Ninth Congressional District of Tennessee, it is my distinct honor to welcome you to the Mid-South pride Festival and Parade;
WHEREAS, Mid-South Pride Festival and Parade is an annual, multicultural and educational event that highlights the continuing need for better understanding and respect for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) citizens;
WHEREAS, in 2010 the festival had over 5,000 attendees. It is the second largest Pride Festival in the State of Tennessee, and the only pride Festival in the Mid-South region covering Eastern Arkansas, North Mississippi, West Tennessee and the boot heel of Missouri;
WHEREAS, Mid-South Pride Festival and Parade features local and regional artists including musical genres of hip-hop, R&B, jazz, folk, punk and Broadway;
WHEREAS; it is only fitting that we pay tribute on this day, and at all times, to the ideals of diversity that promote “unity, visibility, and self-esteem;” and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that, I, Steve Cohen, Member of Congress, along with the citizens of the Ninth Congressional District of Tennessee, welcome you to the Mid-South Pride Festival and Parade on this, the 15th day of October, 2011.
